The first night passed slowly. I would half fall asleep but my roommate watched TV all night long. I kept waking in a half fog thinking that two days ago I was hauling around 25 pound blocks building a retaining wall at my house and now I couldn’t even write my name. I cried a lot that night but tried to keep it quiet by burying my head in my pillow. Thank God I had at least asked my family to bring me my actual pillows from my house. The hospital pillows were horrible. I would go from burning up to freezing and I had to ask the nurse to cover me with a blanket as I couldn’t do it myself.
I noticed that my right leg was cold to the touch and that both my hand and foot were swollen. Apparently a stroke affects the circulation of your limbs.
